Around Town
The San Mateo Citywide Yard Sale Is Back, July 25 and 26
Updated July 11, 2026
For one weekend, the whole city turns into a treasure hunt. Here's how to sell your own stuff, or go find someone else's.
Once a year, San Mateo throws open its garages. The Citywide Yard Sale returns Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, and the city puts every participating home on one big map so you can plan your route. Whether you're clearing out the garage or hunting for a deal, here's how it works.
The basics
- When: Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26, 2026.
- Where: All over the city. The City of San Mateo publishes a map of every participating home.
- Cost: Free to join, whether you're selling or shopping.
Sellers can set up for one day or both. No pressure to do the whole weekend.
Want to sell?
Register your sale at cityofsanmateo.org/YardSale and you'll land on the citywide map, so shoppers can actually find you. You can host your own or team up with a few neighbors and turn your block into a destination. Group sales pull bigger crowds, and they're more fun. Questions go to YardSale@cityofsanmateo.org.
Want to shop?
- Grab the map first. Pull up the citywide map and sketch a loop so you're not crisscrossing town.
- Go early. The best finds are gone by mid-morning. Serious hunters are out by 8am.
- Bring small bills. Ones and fives make haggling easy, and most sellers can't break a fifty for a two-dollar mug.
- Bring a tote and a tape measure. You'll thank yourself when you find that shelf.
A local note
The Citywide Yard Sale is one of those weekends that makes San Mateo feel like a small town again. You'll meet neighbors you've never met, find something with a story, and probably give something of yours a second life. That's the whole point.
